One of the numbers you should know for any production line or for any production plant is going to be the flow rate. This is the number of pieces you get per minute. This formula looks like this:
FR = DR / (h)(s)
Where:
- FR = flow rate
- DR = Daily rate from the process (the total)
- h = time per shift available (normally 450 minutes)
- s = number of shifts
For example …. If you make 750 pieces per day, and you run 1 shift, the the equation is set up as follows:
FR = 750 pieces per shift / (450 minutes)(1 shift)
FR = 1.67 pieces per minute
This would be your flow rate.
